The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011

It regulates the pre-packaged items supplied in India and requires strict labelling requirements before pre-packaged commodities. The following declarations must be printed on every packaging in order to comply with this regulation:

  • If you are the importer, packer, or manufacturer, you are obligated to give the name and address of your business.
  • When it comes to imported packages, the nation of origin needs to be stated.
  • Common or generic name of the product as it is written on the packaging.
  • Net amount, represented as a standard unit of weight, measure, or number.
  • Production, packing, or importing month and year.
  • The retail purchase price, expressed in Indian rupees and including all taxes, is the Maximum Retail Price (MRP).
